Intensive control of type 1 diabetes helps kidneys

NEJM has just published a landmark paper from the followup of patients who participated in the original DCCT Trial which compared conventional and intensive control of Type 1 diabetes and its effect on micro and macrovascular complications. The study showed that people with type 1 diabetes who maintain tighter control of their blood sugar levels help protect their kidneys from long-term damage. More evidence to tighten blood sugar control right from the beginning. Metabolic memory folks!
